Air shipments follow strict international aviation safety rules, and some everyday products simply aren’t allowed on a plane. Here’s a simple guide to help your parcel reach home without delays.
Who these rules apply to
The air cargo restrictions cover every air shipment from Thailand and China to Bhutan, including:

Items that cannot be shipped by air
These categories are strictly not allowed in air freight:
- Explosives and firearms
- Flammable liquids such as alcohol, solvents, fuels and perfumes in bulk
- Flammable solids such as matches and fireworks
- Compressed gas such as gas cylinders, butane cans and aerosol sprays
- Radioactive and oxidizing materials
- Corrosive substances such as acids, chemicals and leaking acid batteries
- Poisonous, toxic, infectious or biohazard materials
- Other miscellaneous dangerous goods
Spare lithium batteries need special care too: they must be properly declared and packed according to airline regulations.
Everyday items that catch people out
Most shoppers would never order fireworks, but a few common products fall into these categories without people realising it. Spray deodorants, hair spray and spray paint are aerosols. Nail polish remover, some cleaning products and paint thinners are flammable or chemical liquids. Lighters and refills, camping gas and large bottles of perfume can also be a problem. If a product is pressurised, flammable or carries a hazard warning on its label, check with us first.

Airlines take these rules seriously. Undeclared dangerous goods can be confiscated, delay the whole shipment, lead to penalties, or get the shipment cancelled. - Read the product page carefully. Look for words like aerosol, flammable, pressurised or contains battery.
